Sarah Feldman is a composer and musician based in Montreal, QC. Her work explores novel arrangements of time (such a multiple tempi), just intonation, acoustic modelling and modular synthesis. She is a student of Electroacoustics at Concordia University and plays in a band called Watering.
Her response draws inspiration from Monahan’s manipulation of parameters that are often taken for granted as being necessarily constant. In the case of his current installation, the resonator of the instrument, a piano string, is slackened and pulled taut throughout the piece. Looking back at his body of work, Monahan has manipulated physical space as a part of a composition (Space Becomes the Instrument I & II).
