About the Festival

The Strata Festival is the annual concert and workshop series presented by Sask New Music (SNM). SNM is a non-profit education and performance society for the promotion of western art music from the recent past. SNM dedicates itself to the young and emerging composers of western Canada (and Saskatchewan in particular) through: the presentation of their works, the coordination of educational workshops, the fostering of an informed local audience, and the invitation of important global figures and works to the province. The focal point of SNM’s annual activity is a summer festival for new prairie music (The Strata Festival) presented in conjunction with the Saskatoon Composers’ Performance Society. A celebration of aesthetic diversity is reflected through the eclectic programming of SNM concerts and the spirit of cooperation that has brought festival co-founders Paul Suchan and Darren Miller together despite their own aesthetic divergences.
